Pakistan, Turkmenistan to Fast-Track TAPI Project for Regional Energy Cooperation

ISLAMABAD: High-ranking officials from Pakistan and Turkmenistan have committed to accelerating the execution of the long-anticipated TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) gas pipeline project. This strategic pipeline aims to deliver gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan and Pakistan, ultimately reaching India.

Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr. Musadik Malik highlighted the significant benefits of the TAPI project, stating, “The TAPI pipeline project will lower energy costs, boost industrial growth, create jobs, and foster economic development.” He emphasized the necessity of reliable and affordable energy supplies for industrial sectors and overall economic stability.

Dr. Malik met with Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, who was on a two-day visit to Pakistan with a delegation. Malik underscored the substantial progress achieved through collaborative efforts aimed at fostering economic integration and energy security. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the project, stressing its importance for regional energy cooperation and infrastructure development.

“The visit of the Turkmenistan foreign minister marks a significant milestone in strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations,” Malik remarked.

Meredov highlighted the collaborative roadmap for cooperation between the two countries. TAPI Pipeline Company CEO Muhammetmyrat Amanov noted significant progress on the project due to the involvement of Pakistan’s petroleum minister and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).

Officials from both sides stressed the strategic importance of the TAPI project in enhancing regional connectivity, promoting economic growth, and meeting the energy demands of participating nations. They expressed their commitment to overcoming any remaining challenges through continued cooperation and mutual support. Diplomatic efforts and political commitments were deemed essential for creating a conducive environment for project advancement.

The TAPI project stands as a testament to the enduring partnership between Pakistan and Turkmenistan, reflecting their shared goals of regional stability and prosperity through sustainable energy solutions.

Meredov was accompanied by a delegation including Ata Haljanov, Head of International Economic Cooperation Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Eziz Nazarov, Head of Legal Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Muhammetmyrat Amanov, Board Chairman and CEO of TAPI Pipeline Company Limited; and Atadjan Movlamov, Ambassador of Turkmenistan.
